We thought we’d share with you one true gem passed on by Momma MacGill- Susan’s Rustic Tomato Sauce. Because where would we be in life without Mom’s homemade recipes?

Susan's Rustic Tomato Sauce

a few glugs of olive oil

2 tbs butter

pinch of sea salt

pinch of ground pepper

1 yellow onion

2 cloves garlic

32 oz canned peeled plum tomatoes

handful of basil, torn never chopped

crumbled parmesan cheese



Melt olive oil and butter together along with a pinch of sea salt and pepper. Roughly chop the onion and garlic and add to the oil and butter. Cook until the onions are softened and translucent. Open the canned tomatoes and pour the liquid into the pot. Roughly chop the tomatoes and add to the sauce. Simmer for about an hour (the longer it cooks, the better it tastes) Tear the basil and add to the sauce before serving over pasta with crumbled parmesan cheese- or even alone as a chunky tomato soup!
