Michael Moran - Walnut "Phillips Head Screwdriver" and "Pliers"

2,100.00

Mary MacGill Holiday Collection 2017

Two hand carved black walnut pieces by furniture maker and artist Michael Moran. The two are part of a larger 12 part series entitled Utility, which is a depiction of objects designed for function alone. In the artist's words, "The reversal of materials, while rendering their function, is an exploration of the meaning of those materials and their literal strengths and weaknesses. From carving each head to sand-casting each handle, this series is an homage to hand tools, their construction and function."

- The pliers and screwdriver are mounted to the handmade frame with structural posts, painted white like the background of the shadow box. The narrow Walnut frame includes a subtle reveal of wood around the inside on the box before it meets crisp, matte white paint.

- Each piece is 1:1 rendering of the respective tool. The Screwdriver's dimensions are: 3 1/4"D 6"W 13"H, and the Plier's: 3 1/4"D 8"W 12"H.
