Ink on Paper

Alice Attie is a visual artist and poet based in New York City. With an MFA in poetry and a PhD in comparative literature. Attie’s artistic practice explores the space beyond language; that which language itself can not simply express, and the possibilities of communicating understanding through the habitual exercise of mapping. Attie’s series “Possibilities” more loosely explores the transformative act of organizing marks on a page;
“A line is the mark of possibility. It can be curled or pulled or divided, theoretically, in infinite
ways. Marks that meet the page, in random or deliberate ways, invoke the potential of endless exploration. These ink drawings, clusters of marks, cohering, dispersing, being fixed or spilling over,
are abstractions and thus, do not define themselves but instead are openings,
portals for the imagination to enter into.” – Alice Attie
