Sarah Mijares Fick's practice begins with associative writing and drawing and works its way into naturally undulating and unpredictable forms of coiled clay. In the act of rolling out and layering coils of clay, Mijares Fick utilizes a repetitive pinching process to create extraordinarily complex forms that remind us of intricate sand and rock formations at grand scale. In a nod to the inevitability of growth and practicality, Sarah's forms also prove to be utilitarian: vases to hold flowers, a cavernous coffee table to peer into, but also to hold your everyday object.
