Oil on Handmade Cotton Paper
19.5” x 23 3/8” Framed
Colleen Herman is an New York artist living and working between the US, India and Mexico. Her work is influenced by the tension between movement and containment and finds freedoms within these forms. With a deep adoration for color and attention to the juxtaposition of shape and form, Colleen’s dynamic use of paint functions as a conversation between colors.
Colleen spent time in Oaxaca, Mexico at a residency this winter where she further explored her process, expressing movement and sounds with colors and strokes. Working with oil pastels, handmade paper, and Mexican muslin, Colleen created a body of work that referenced her surroundings and the influence of other studio mates.
