Ralph Stout graduated from Bucknell University in 1960 with a degree in mathematics and currently lives and works in East Hampton, NY. A persistent, voracious interest in the visual arts has informed Stout’s skills as an abstract painter and photographer. Stout’s paintings hark back to his knowledge of mathematics and often play in the tension between the presumed foreground and the background of an image, the character of the curve and edge of a straight line. Mary MacGill Studio is pleased to show a selection of Ralph’s paintings and works on paper in partnership with the Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY.
